A Little About Virginia Woolfe:
Born Adeline Virginia Stephen in London, England to Leslie Stephen, a literary figure and editor, and Julia (Jackson) Stephen, who had been a model for painters and could be found nursing the sick.
At nine, Woolf was already showing her creative side by writing a newspaper about her family, Hyde Park State News.
In the span of roughly nine years Woolfe lost her mother, her half sister, Stella, and her father. After the death of her father in 1904 she had a nervous breakdown.
In 1908, her book Reminiscences was published. It was the story of her childhood and her mother.
By 1912, she had met and married Leonard Woolf. Their love for one another lasted the rest of their lives.
In 1915, Woolf released her book, The Voyage Out, which she had been working on years before she met her husband. She went on to write several more. Her forth book, written in 1925, Mrs. Dalloway, was made into a movie in 1997.
Throughout her career she made public appearances at colleges and universities, wrote essays and short stories, all while she struggled with depression and mood swings.
On March 28, 1941, Woolf put on an overcoat, filled the pockets with stones, and walked into the River Ouse where she was swept away by the stream. Her body was found about three weeks later by authorities.
Her finished manuscript, Between the Acts, was published shortly after her death.
Virginia Woolfe died from suicide at the age of 59.
