A Little About Laura Ingalls Wilder:
Born in a log cabin to Charles and Caroline Ingalls.

The Ingalls family moved often.
When Laura was two they moved to Kansas. Then to Walnut Grove, Minnesota. When their crop met with disaster they moved to Burr Oak, Iowa. They returned to Walnut Grove only to move a few years latter to DeSmet, South Dakota. It was in South Dakota they finally settled.

When Laura was 15 years old she got a job teaching at the Bouchie School.  The school was 12 miles away from her parents. Charles and Caroline would send a family friend, Almanzo Wilder, to pick her up on weekends to visit.

In 1885 Laura and Almanzo were married. Laura quit her teaching job to help her husband work on the farm and to raise children.

A year later Laura gave birth to a daughter, Rose.  A few years later the Wilder’s ran into some tragic times with the death of their newborn son, Almanzo contracting diphtheria, which left him partially paralyzed and their home burning to the ground.

In 1894 the Wilder’s bouth a 200 acre farm in Missouri. They called it Rocky Ridge Farm. A farmhouse was built and they lived there raising livestock.

In the 1920’s Laura wrote her first autobiography, Pioneer Girl, which her daughter Rose, a reporter for The San Francisco Bulletin encouraged.  The book was rejected by publishers.

In 1932 Laura wrote a series of children’s books based on her life which were called, Little House books. Included in this series was Little House on the Prairie and By The Shores of Silver Lake. In 1943 she wrote the last book at the age of 76.

From 1974-1982 Laura’s books were made into a television show called, Little House On The Prairie. 

Laura Ingalls Wilder died from complications of diabetes mellitus at the age of 90.
