A Little About John A Macdonald:
Born to parents Hugh and Helen Macdonald. Father bought a chain of businesses and moved the family to Kingston Upper Canada when Macdonald was five.
Macdonald obtained a very good education and by the time he turned 19 he he had opened his own law office.
In 1843, he entered politics by serving as an alderman for the city of Kingston.
In 1844, Macdonald was elected to serve in the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada as a Conservative representative.
1856-1862 found Macdonald serving as a joint Premier for the Province of Canada.
Macdonald was a proud supporter of the Confederation Movement.
He drafted the British North American Act which integrated the Provinces of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and the Province of Canada into the Dominion of Canada on July 1, 1867.
From 1867-1873, Macdonald served as the first Prime Minister of Canada. The implication of his involvement in the Pacific Scandal led to his resignation.
In 1878 he was once again elected Prime Minister where he remained until the day he died.
John a Macdonald died of a stroke at the age of 76.
